Case Studies > Drake Trucks, Inc.
Company
Background. Drake Trucks, Inc., www.draketrucks.com,
is a leading reseller of medium and heavy duty trucks. Specializing
in grain trucks and trailers, as well as semi tractors, Drake
Trucks, Inc. has been serving the entire Midwestern United
States from their single location in western Indiana since
1993.
Business Challenge. Over the past 10 years Drake Trucks,
Inc. has earned an excellent reputation for their quality
trucks, service and fair prices. With advertising reaching
the past the far borders of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, their reputation has grown outside their immediate
geographic area along with the challenges to keep up with
customer demands to view inventory before making a several
hour trip to meet them in person.
With strenuous time constraints placed on the employees of
Drake Trucks, Inc., and the fact that their employees are
truck experts, not computer experts, they not only needed
a way for customers to view inventory in a more efficient
way, but they needed this solution to be quick and easy for
them to maintain as inventory often turns over on a daily
basis.
Solution. Having over 10 years of experience themselves
in heavy duty trucking operations and an in depth knowledge
of Drake Trucks, Inc. daily operations, JVL developed a website
that is administered by Drake Trucks, Inc. employees on a
daily basis. Through an easy to use web based admin interface
Drake Trucks, Inc. employees can now upload images and details
of new inventory and edit or delete existing inventory. They
also have the ability to create new truck categories and brand/model
areas to make user searches easier.
For the website user, JVL integrated features that allow
the user to email Drake Trucks, Inc. sales department regarding
a specific vehicle and to also send the listing to a friend.
All inventory listings were made to be sorted from newer to
older or older to newer model years, high to low or low to
high price, makes and models in alphabetical order or reverse
order. Lastly, JVL incorporated email newsletter technologies
on the website so Drake Trucks, Inc. could develop their own
online advertising and email list database in a faster, more
efficient way.
The design for Drake Trucks, Inc. website was required to
be simple and easy to use. Since inventory is always an array
of different colored trucks and styles it was determined to
keep the website professional looking but not flashy, so the
trucks would be the items that stood out the most and not
the actual design.
Technologies. Primarily PHP and mySQL database, supplemented
with HTML.
